Dear colleagues,

The ongoing developments in the field of bone treatment, either fractures, defects, or nonunions, need to be followed closely by all of us. New insights bring new treatment modalities and better results to our patients. The more complex situations, however, still challenge our skills and ideas. Osteoporosis, large defects, nonunions, and high energy injuries lead to every-day decisions, and the new developments may aid us in these decisions.

To address situations a profound knowledge on bone biology with complex physiological processes and the effect of new (biological) therapies in combination with adequate mechanical stabilization is necessary.

On behalf of the scientific committee of the BONE BIOLOGY CONGRESS  –  the 6th European Clinical Symposium on Bone and Tissue Regeneration  – it is a great pleasure  for me  to invite  you  to our next meeting  in Amsterdam from  September  3-5th , 2009.

The exciting field of research in bone biology will be discussed by surgeons and scientists, meeting in this forum to bring you up-to –date on the steps already made, and those to come. Also, in order to give the developments a place in clinical decision making, special attention will be paid to the do’s and don’ts of clinical trials.

The diamond concept will be discussed extensively, as well as molecular mechanisms regulating bone repair, biological enhancement of bone healing using BMPs and other stimulating substances..

Together with scientists, leading trauma and orthopaedic surgeons will discuss interesting cases relevant to your practice in open panel discussions with all participants. A call for abstracts will be released to encourage young scientists to present their results and ideas.
